A commuter passenger train collided with a construction crane that intruded onto the track near Cartagena in southeastern Spain on Thursday, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around midday on the Cartagena–Los Nietos line in the Region of Murcia.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene after the crane’s arm struck the train, breaking glass and injuring passengers. Officials reported that the train did not derail and remained on the rails throughout the incident.
At least six people suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals in Cartagena for assessment and care. Two of those treated were reported to have experienced anxiety attacks, and others had minor physical injuries.
Rail traffic on the affected line was briefly suspended while safety checks were conducted, but services were later restored without further disruption. Regional authorities stated there was no ongoing danger once operations resumed.
Officials have not yet released a full explanation of how the crane came to intrude into the railway’s clearance area. An investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances that led to the collision.
