New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was seen on the ground shoveling snow alongside local residents during a severe winter storm that battered the city over the weekend. The hands-on activity occurred in Brooklyn neighbourhoods including Williamsburg, Clinton Hill and Bedford-Stuyvesant as heavy snow and hazardous winter conditions affected much of the metropolitan area.
The snowfall, attributed to Winter Storm Fern, prompted city agencies to mobilize emergency snow removal operations and led to widespread travel disruptions, hazardous road conditions and a government push for safety measures. Mayor Mamdani assisted in clearing snow around vehicles that were stuck and helped residents shovel sidewalks and roadways.
Mamdani posted on social media that there is “no task too big or no job too small,” reinforcing his message of solidarity with New Yorkers as the winter storm impacted daily life across the city.
The storm’s challenges extended beyond snow removal; city officials reported school closures and a shift to remote learning due to hazardous conditions. Emergency responses included deployment of sanitation crews, plows and resources across all five boroughs.
