Denmark’s monarch, King Frederik X, and Queen Mary have officially announced a six-day state visit to Australia, scheduled from March 14 to March 19 this year. The visit marks the couple’s first official tour to Australia since Frederik ascended the Danish throne in January 2024 following the abdication of Queen Margrethe II.
The itinerary for the tour will include engagements in Canberra, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory, the Danish palace confirmed. The program is expected to highlight diplomatic, cultural, and economic cooperation between Denmark and Australia, although a detailed schedule has not yet been publicly released.
Danish officials have said the tour will put a spotlight on shared priorities between the two nations including sustainability, renewable energy collaboration, and cultural exchange initiatives. The announcement noted that Queen Mary’s Australian birth connection, having been born in Hobart, Tasmania, adds personal significance to the official visit.
The state visit was publicly announced while the royal couple were on an official engagement in Estonia and Lithuania. Both governments coordinated on the announcement, underscoring the continued diplomatic relationship between Denmark and Australia.
At present, there are no reported changes to the scheduled dates or itinerary, and Denmark’s royal court continues to prepare for the formal engagements and receptions that typically accompany state visits of this scale.
