A late penalty decision awarded to Morocco deep into stoppage time sparked chaos and a temporary walk-off by Senegal’s players in protest. Officials halted play for approximately 14 minutes before the players returned to the field.
Morocco’s Brahim Díaz took the penalty after the resumption, but his Panenka attempt was saved by Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, keeping the score level at the end of regulation. Extra time followed thereafter.
