The Buffalo Bills have confirmed the promotion of Joe Brady to head coach, finalizing their leadership transition less than two weeks after parting ways with longtime coach Sean McDermott. Brady, previously the team’s offensive coordinator, has agreed to a five-year contract to take over the club’s top coaching role.
Brady, 36, joined the Bills coaching staff in 2022 as the quarterbacks coach and was elevated to offensive coordinator during the 2023 season. Under his Play-Caller leadership, Buffalo’s offense ranked among the NFL’s best during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
The promotion follows the Bills’ decision to fire McDermott on January 19, 2026, after the team’s elimination from the NFL playoffs in the divisional round. McDermott’s nine-year tenure included multiple playoff appearances but no Super Bowl berth.
Brady’s appointment marks the start of a new era for the franchise as it prepares for the 2026 NFL season. The team will compete under his direction at the newly constructed New Highmark Stadium, with the goal of building on recent offensive success.
