Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the 2026 Australian Open before her scheduled third-round match in Melbourne, Australia. The withdrawal was confirmed on Saturday, 24 January 2026, just hours before her match was due to begin.
The two-time Australian Open champion cited a fitness issue in a social media announcement, saying she needed to address a physical concern after her previous match. Osaka did not provide further medical details in her public statement.
Her scheduled opponent, Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis, advanced to the tournament’s fourth round via a walkover. Inglis will play her next match in the Round of 16 as a result of Osaka’s withdrawal.
Osaka’s departure ends her participation in the 2026 tournament at Melbourne Park. The decision was made before live play commenced for her third-round contest.
